Thanks for the Info

Hey.

While most of this can easily be researched on NG, I do have a question about voting power: would you happen to know where I could find the actual formula? I know it uses your experience, then you get additional % based of your B/P, but what is the exact formula? Probably not even available to us.

Thanks for making this. Nice tune, by the way. ;-)

hope this could help

Nice Game

Hey.

Nice game. presented fairly well.

The only issue I encountered was an AcrionScript run-time error.

I encountered this error just after selecting the difficulty. The message was:

Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://uploads.ungrounded.net/490000/
490463_guitar_flash.swf cannot load data from http://www.gamesx.com.br/jogos/guitar _flash_underground/pontos.asp?cod=0.
at pontos/enviaDados()
at pontos()
at jogo/tcVerif()

Using Flash Player 10 debug version (to catch error messages).

Other than that, the game is good. Test of timing!

Interesting Concept

Hey.

Interesting concept.

However, I felt like I was wrestling with his sleep. It falls asleep too fast. Darn lazy bird. :-D

Having a solid understanding of AI is key in simulation such as this.

Would like to see this developed more.

Good skill, soldier.

Some suggestions

Hey.

There is a high saturation of Flash games like this one, and it doesn't stand out.

- With the exception of the Health power-up, they've been done to death. Something that still has some some life to it is a hunter power-up, than can track enemies. Perhaps make a "bomb" power-up. It's fire rate isn't as high, but it explodes, killing all enemies within its area.

- The play area is too small, as there's not much room to maneuver. Slightly smaller objects would have been better.

- The music is too loud. Either allow players to adjust its volume, OR mute only the music.

- Make the audio more dynamic. Pan the sounds left or right, and/or adjust their volume, depending on their distance to the player.

- Make the power-ups move around or at least make them appear in random spots instead of the center each time.

- Create a sound effect when power-ups are collected.

- In the instructions, "multiplier" is misspelled.

- The point of origin for the player's projectiles is a bit off.

Just some suggestions.

Nice Tutorial

Hey.

I commend your efforts in this tutorial. While I already know this, I was most interested in your section on sound.

I think there lots of Flash developer starting out should see this. Then they'd have no excuse when their submissions don't have audio in them. (-:

I should point out the following: I don't believe it's Flash that actually inserts the silence into the beginning of the MP3. I'm 99% sure that it doesn't.

It's actually the MP3 compression method itself that inserts this silence. There is a way to get "gapless" MP3 looping, even for short loops. This is beyond the scope of your tutorial, but just an FYI.

(If I may digress a little, there is a way to get "gapless" MP3 loops, more or less, even for short loops. If interested, please check this page out:
http://www.compuphase.com/mp3/mp3loop s.htm)

Including sound panning, next time. (-:

Donitz responds:

Ah. Well I first believed the same about the silence in the mp3s, but according to a website I visited today they claimed it was indeed that flash editor that inserts the silence. Here's the source.
"When flash sees an MP3 file, it usually means its a short sound, or is one that isn't meant to be looped. It adds space to the beginning (and end if needed) to smooth the playback of the sound. You may not know it, but the second you import the file into flash, the editing has already been done."

Booooooooring.

Hey.

- All I did was go back and forth, simply holding the spacebar down the entire time. Not much to it. Needs something that actually requires some skill. Make it into a full-fledged platform 8-directional scrolling game where you can get power-ups, and go around bashing various different things.

- Needs more content.

- Add sound effects.

- You bash the, then more of them appear than you bashed, and eventually, it's overrun with them.

- The best thing about this game was its music quality, although the music didn't fit the game.

- Please go back to the drawing board and try again.

Good skill in the future.

yep totally agree with you! I'll put my new artist to work. And we'll be working on a new game...

Needs Much Improvement

Hey.

- The background is distracting and makes it difficult to see things.

- Is there scoring in the game?

- Make the crosshairs stand out more. They are difficult to see, no matter which set they are changed to.

- Make a mare pratical challenge. The targets that are "teleporting" all over the place are annoying, then the screen just gets overrun with them, which brings me to the next point:

- The instant and sudden transition to the Game Over screen. Make a special effect transition. Not very user-friendly.

- The instructions were a little hard to read. Make them stand out more.

- Include more sound effects. And if you do (you really _should_), include at least two similar sounds for some of the events, because I can already tell you that based on what I've seen here, you'd put the same annoying, monotonous sound effect in.

- Please put in some (more) effort, because this looks like it was thrown together in a very short period of time.

Good skill in the future.

I really appreciate the feedback, but I think the part you were missing was that it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. I guess I didn't make that obvious enough, though ;)

Anyway, have fun, and good luck with... whatever you need luck with.

Glitch Viewing the Tankman

Hey.

I can't see the Tankman.

After I input my name, he appears for just an instance, then disappears.

However, when I click the "Random" button, then he appears, and all seems ok, but unless this is by design, that issue should be corrected.

Also, maybe give several songs to listen to while we're customizing. (-:

Other than those, it's ok.

Well, you're supposed to choose them all in order...Not changing your class will make it so the character doesn't show up..Just how I coded it. But I will fix that anyways in the next version of this. Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Nice Game

Hey.

Interesting concept of gameplay. Noting a few things now:

- Graphics detail is quite good, although they are to small. They fonts are a bit too small to read.

- It's difficult to read and play at the same time. (-:

- The shot of the main gun should move faster, because it's quite difficult to aim at things. Even firing "leading" shots is difficult, because the projectiles are too slow.

- I would change centering to the "S" key. Puts it right in between the "A" and "D" keys.

- How does repairing work? When I want to repair on demand, seems I can only do a large repair, then I only get little repairs after that (and even those aren't always available). Then, I get nailed. :-P

- Audio: Overall, pretty good. I'd add maybe two or three different sounds for some of these events, especially firing, because it gets monotonous and annoying very quickly.

Otherwise, neat game.

* salutes *

if a turret doesnt have the "repair" available, then it's either undamaged or there aren't enough resources to repair it :)

indeed, it's a bit offhand to read the story. on easy mode, the story lines come at a slower rate and are easier to read. besides, the story is synced with the (combat) events and some guys complained that the game is too slow for them...i guess the balance is hard to reach :)

Needs Lots of Work

Hey.

Regarding music: A simple NES sounding chip-tune would work for this. It's not a quick action game, so stay away from upbeat, songs with fast tempos.

If that's not your taste, then since the main character has on shades, and has that sort of cool, suave feel about him, consider using a smooth, hip-hop or jazzy beat. Nothing too fancy, though; you don't want the music sounding more complex than a simple game. (-:

Hope that helps.

Regarding other aspects:

- Adding sound effects goes withour saying. (-:

- Fix up the transitions from one screen to the next. Maybe do a simple fade in and fade out. Especially when I advance to the next level. The main character "jumps" around a bit and starts off in mid-air.

- When the game is over, consider allowing the player to continue from the last level they were on instead of starting from the beginning. Maybe give them limited continues. Or, at least, when they complete different-colored levels, allow them to restart on the first area of the most recent colored level.

- When you attack, the "attack image" instantly disappears as soon as you let go of the button. Allow it to continue, so players can simply tap the button, unless this is by design.

- The player cannot attack while moving left or right, unless this is by design. Furthermore, there is no left facing idle pose, only a right one. In other words, if I am moving left and then stop, he faces right again.

- The HUD moves around when the screen scrolls, and the boss's health scrolls off the screen.

- Include some kind of special effect when you kill things.

- The enemies on the different-colored levels all basically do the same thing. Consider changing their behaviors so they do different things to make it more challenging.

Would like to see this developed much more. I like old platform scrollers. (-:
